The Honourable Rob Nicholson,
P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls,

Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada

Dear Mr. Nicholson,

I write to you in your capacity as Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

We have recently become aware that the RCMP, a corporate entity hired by Canada to protect Canadians from unlawful behaviour, has officially declared many peaceful political groups to be "risks to officer safety."

I refer to an RCMP PIC dated August 3, 2011 which makes the claim that something they call "the FTOL" is a libertarian and anti-government movement".

This document goes on to specifically name several political websites and indicates that anyone showing any interest in these sites is somehow likely to be criminal and a threat. This is not correct. As a member of some of these political groups, I can tell you that what we actually believe in is personal responsibility and peaceful, lawful behaviour (on the part of everyone including policy enforcement officers, politicians, judges and Ministers of Justice).

I trust you will now address this grievous error by informing our hired servants at the RCMP that political speech is not a crime here in Canada.

I further bring to your attention the fact that the RCMP holds this to be a dangerous idea: "They also believe that they have the right to use force, including deadly force, in defence of their land, property, and family."

Will you, for the record, please state whether or not it is lawful for anyone to use force to protect their land, property, and family? If it is unlawful to protect yourself, Canadians must be informed of this at once and I trust you will hold a high-profile press conference to announce this fact, lest harm be done, and if it is in fact lawful to protect yourself, the RCMP must be informed at once, lest harm be done.

I thank you for your attention to these serious matters and look forward to your reply.

Sincerely, -Kent Barrett Reference: http://www.theagoranational.ca/index.php/news/local-news/item/309-internal-rcmp-memo-on-how-to-deal-with-a-freeman
