to further what ww said it also leads to hefty fines for operating an uninsured motor vehicle on a public roadway. in alberta the opening fine is currently 5000 bucks for no insurance and hundreds for no registration. and im not sure if its through yet, but driving under suspension is good for a few days in jail and a fine for a first offense. not to mention they seize your vehicle for 30 days automatically and on the spot. and you are then further responsible for impound fees if you want your car back. or work truck. or motorhome. or any vehicle operated on a public road. this is only alberta, but every place seems to be cracking down.

weigh the benefits of doing this against the detriments. doing things for moral reasons or because of a belief often have consequences. do not overlook them.

she could not prove she was from mexico and may face indefinite detention until her identity is proven. and that is simply trying to sneak into mexico, nevermind homeland security on her way back. and i would think it wrong to be forced to marry to gain citizenship. not only is that illegal as its a sham marriage, she could not legally marry as she could mot get a marriage license as she could not prove her country of birth.

A Texas teenager has started a viral campaign to help her prove her US citizenship after her Christian fundamentalist parents allegedly refused to register her for a birth certificate or social security number.

Alecia Pennington, 19, claims her predicament has left her unable to travel, obtain a driver's licence or bank account, and she began the campaign “Help Me Prove It” to find a solution.

"My name is Alecia Faith Pennington and I am a US citizen by birth," she says in a YouTube video posted on February 9.

"However, I was born at home and my parents neglected to file a birth certificate or birth record of any kind."

Ms Pennington claims to have been home-schooled her entire life and to have never visited a hospital, resulting in a complete lack of records surrounding her identity.
An image from Alecia Pennington's Facebook campaign page details her struggle. (Supplied)

She left her parents, James and Lisa, in September last year and has since been attempting to establish her identity.

"I am now 19 years old and I’m unable to get a driver’s license, get a job, go to college, get on a plane, get a bank account, or vote," she says in the video.

She said she just wanted to prove herself a "functioning American", but a district court judge had rejected her application for a delayed birth registration, saying there was "not sufficient evidence" of her birth.

James and Lisa Pennington were recognised by the Texas Home School Coalition as "Leaders of the Year" in 2010 for their commitment to home schooling.

Lisa Pennington on that occasion wrote an article claiming their motivation to home-school their nine children was Biblically motivated.

"We believe that the Bible teaches that God’s wisdom is more important than knowledge," she wrote.

The online reaction to Alecia Pennington's campaign has been fierce, with her YouTube video already topping half a million views.

Ms Pennington also claims her parents refused her request for an affidavit attesting to their citizenship and the facts of her birth.

"I didn't pick this situation for myself," she said.

"I just have to deal with the consequences and I don't know how to fix this."

quite a rant! however for all its worth it offers nothing to the thread or the problem as you perceive it. and sadly i have yet to verify an instance of the vast majority of what folks are trying here working. if you dont like the system how do you purpose to change it? or are you just out to clear your own debt that you got yourself voluntarily into by means other than you agreed to in the first place?

the easiest way to clear debt is simply do not get into it in the first place. the second easiest is pay it as promised (or sooner as that cuts interest)and in the accepted form of currency. then stay away from the god damned bankers.

now this method i belive is unfair for things like medical debt. but is that the bank or the overpriced medical care?

but as to the rant, i think you are over reacting. kiwi may be gruff and ruff but the fact is some of us get tired of repeating ourselves and being nice about it. for example the original poster in this thread, motorheadv10, listened to a few of us, like kiwi and myself and look what happened? he kept his house and can save the equity he has in it. then if he chooses to sell he can clear the debt, possibly make a few bucks, and enjoy the knowledge that banks are a rip off. what were the alternatives offering? failed theories and a reason for the banks to take that equity and give you a bill for their legal services.

so hate who you want, but think if thats actually appropriate.

it dosent really matter how the lender got what he lent you. you got what you wanted and agreed to pay it. simple as that. if you do not you are in fact the dishonourable one. two wrongs do not make a right. clear your dance card like our fore fathers did and pay your bills, and do not use them again.

to do any different is to be a scammer even if you dont belive you are. you got the house or car or whatever on your word. and now you think stuff is free? get real.

and fractional reserve banking at a country level and getting a car or house loan although comparable, are not the same thing. dont pretend they are. (despite the massive argument from verbosity and argument from ignorance one poster infects every thread with; although he has no iron in any such fire and lives off a government check)

People who make a promise to pay and whose promise then bounces are shit-heads without honour or valid excuse.

i remember those days. and it made me remember one of the remedys stores had when folks run around writing bum checks. remember when stores used to tape those checks on the front window or the till to let others know who was ripping them off? heck where im from there was a couple stores and a bar that used to put your name on the big lighted sign out front saying your check bounced and you need to come pay your bill. but alas we are in a new age...

i am no fan of the banks, and i avoid using them as much as possible. however i have no use for those who think the world owes them a living and attempt to use fraudulent means and loopholes to pay their way. if you made a deal perhaps the best route is to actually pay for what you took and then do not make the same mistake twice. what all this trying to weasel out of your self created obligations is is childish buffoonery. its no different than a 10 year old saying "i didnt say that i would give you a million dollars i said a million doll hairs". or perhaps you crossed your fingers whan you made your promise to pay?

i think every institution folks try to defraud in this manner should post all the paperwork and court cases on line of every single person who tries to rip them off with means much like bum checks. then they could do you the favor of never having you pay interest again! because no one would do business with you on any kind of credit. i can stop using them without ripping others off. perhaps others need some help on this one.....

you created the obligation. now honour it.

yup. most use a bank to buy things they dont need at a price they can not afford for the reason of being cool or keeping up with the jonses. to maintain the basics of life the way vast majority can do so without a brand new set of mags on the brand new car. or a bank loan. i thought housing prices were ridiculous as was rent. so i bought a motorhome of kijiji that i could buy in cash. thusly i have little sympathy for folks who condone usury and big banks by taking loans they dont need at exorbitant interest.

it is rally a two way street. the banks are a for profit business. and there is nothing saying you have to use them. its your choice, and no ones fault but yours and the other users of them for them not changing their ways.

so whos at fault; the prostitute for fucking you for money or the john who pays it when he has a wife at home.

the next time you want a loan for something you dont need perhaps its your attitude that needs an adjustment since its your choice not to be grateful for the things you have.

Norwegians could face jail for giving homeless people food or money if new law passes, critics say

Anyone offering a homeless person a cup of coffee or a sandwich on the streets in Norway could soon risk six months to a year in jail under a proposed new law.

The Norwegian government wants to introduce a national ban on organized begging, which will criminalize not only beggars, but also those deemed to have helped them in any way.

City authorities in Oslo are in uproar at the proposed law, which they say the government is trying to rush through without proper debate, with only three weeks allowed for consultation.

The government says the new law is needed to combat an influx of organized begging gangs in recent years, which it says are a public nuisance and have brought a rise in crime.

We should all be able to show our humanity and help individuals

But opponents say the proposed law is too broad and will affect ordinary citizens trying to help those in need.

“The way I read the proposed law is that if you give a hungry person something to eat or drink, or offer them somewhere to sleep, then you are helping begging and you will be liable to imprisonment or a fine,” Marianne Borgen, an Oslo city councillor, said.

“We should all be able to show our humanity and help individuals. Of course the government didn’t mean to criminalize you or me if we give someone a cup of coffee, but under the proposed law we would be liable to prosecution.”

The government says it is confident that the police will apply the new law sensibly.
Related

“It is about giving police the authority to take all those involved in begging, not just the active beggars,” said Vidar Brein-Karlsen, a junior minister in the ministry of justice.

It is the government’s second attempt in less than a year to take action against begging. Last summer, it passed a law enabling towns and cities to ban begging locally. But few municipalities have implemented such a law. Now opponents claim that the government is trying to force through a ban at a national level. Many also fear the new law could affect volunteers working with the homeless.

Inner Husby, an Oslo woman who is known as Mama Inger for taking homeless people into her home, told the NRK public broadcaster she would not give up her work, despite the risk she could face prosecution.

“I think it just makes me even more anxious to help,” she said. “I do not think it sounds possible to punish people who help others who are having difficulties and poor.”

hi Xabre,

in canada its not a felony. here we have offenses that are summary or indictable. we do not have felonys. and clifford is in jail for improperly stored firearms, restricted weapons charges, growing charges, a couple counts of uttering threats that he got while in jail, and a few other charges. as i pointed out before he was flat out lying to the freedom movement for profit and to inflate his ego. he is actually clueless about the law. if you would like i can send you a few things and you can sit down and see if his updates match the court records or if he is a complete liar. you can decide that on your own, with all the evidence.

as to the actual news item in the original post i took the guys name and googled it adding Manitoba and found the name attached to some real shitty stuff so im not going to repost it as i cannot confirm this is the same guy. if it is he should be there for a very extended period.

and Xabre im going to point out those attacking me for helping folks change their view so as not to lose all they have are quiet consistently talking out of both sides of their mouth. almost all say at some point they have never tried to be a freeman on the land. its a game to them. to some of us, we actually want to help others not just ourselves. they dont care about anyone here as they have no iron in the freeman fire. but attacking others is all they got to protect their religious belifes of what freemen on the land should be doing. even if the advice is harmful.

all we currently know is exactly what the article says. lets start there.

now jury nullification or a charter challenge are completely in the realm of changing a law or getting a charge dismissed. further using knowledge of both police procedures and court procedures one could look for a technicality that may save ones ass a few years in the pokey. not only that the first two options might also help others in the same boat. (remember i do not think prohibition of any drug is useful)

the technicality is all about saving your own ass and possibly your stuff as its most likely to be seized as proceeds of crime.

staying out of jail is far better than costing a family or friends or kids undue hardship by being away and any incurred expenses you are not going to pay or help with as your in jail. and further if they would like to see you it is going to come out of their pocket.

and if your still convicted you get a chance to make your speech before sentencing. and you would know that if you had a grasp on court procedure and the law.

as to my wanting to read the transcript, i do quite enjoy reading cases. maybe theres gold in it maybe there isnt. but there is one thing we already know about it. what he did did not work.

and so you know, many here are interested in freemen on the land actually making a difference. we want change in the world. we want unjust laws overturned. and being loudmouths on forums or claiming you should do nothing is not the way to do it.

and i shall wait for a transcript and should enjoy its content. and yeah, once you demand the queen appear your a kook. or has no one actually learned anything about how court works other than youtube videos? and i know several pot growers. none would use such a long rambling useless defense. mind you with harpers mandatory minimums it makes little difference save for a defense of nullification or charter breech or possibly a couple other things.

i completely agree that pot should be legal. how did this man help to free his neighbors and himself of the pot laws?

guess he could have at least tried a real approach like jury nullification or perhaps a charter challenge.

but instead he successfully made both pot users/growers and freemen look like dummies.

So-called freeman found guilty on drug charges
Accused makes long-winded, rambling closing statement

A so-called "Freeman on the Land" who claimed he was above the law has quickly been convicted of running a marijuana grow operation.

Members of a Winnipeg jury needed only a couple hours to reach their verdict Tuesday afternoon. Scott Peters will be sentenced on Feb. 18.

Peters acted as his own lawyer and argued he was the victim of an unlawful persecution. In his closing argument Monday, he demanded he be allowed to face his accuser in court.

"It says here the Queen versus Scott David Peters. Well where is my accuser? Where is Her Majesty, the Queen? Why isn’t she on the stand?" Peters asked. "There is no case against me."

The question was one of many posted during a rambling, 100-minute closing argument. Queen’s Bench Justice Robert Dewar repeatedly cautioned him to stay on point but clearly gave Peters plenty of latitude.

The Crown, meanwhile, took all of five minutes to summarize their simple case: Peters was found with 56 plants in the basement of his North End home by police officers executing a court-authorized search warrant in 2012.

Growing pot without a licence is illegal. Peters doesn’t have a licence. Therefore, he should be found guilty, they argued.

But Peters appeared to relish his opportunity to speak to the 12 citizens who will decide his fate, taking them on a wild ride that included railing against the government, bureaucrats and even sounding off against fluoride in drinking water, the public school system and monosodium glutamate (MSG).

"It’s all about mind control," Peters said.

He denied any wrongdoing, despite the mountain of evidence against him.

"No man’s life, liberty or property are safe," Peters said at one point, quoting Mark Twain. "I have the right to use my property as I see fit. Nobody has the right to question anything."

Peters isn’t the first "freeman" to irritate justice officials. Last month, a Winnipeg man charged with illegally soaring over the city in a powered paraglider told a judge he should be exempt from prosecution. Tony Gibson, 35, claimed he is a sovereign individual whose civil rights are being abused. His case remains before the courts.
